[there is something different about the cafeteria today!]

[a banner with the words "STUDY HALL" has been strung up across the wall near the back, the words written in sloppy, lopsided handwriting. underneath it, someone has set up a table with many stacks of notecards piled on top! they are organized by team, and further organized by character. someone has been kind enough to give you study materials for the encroaching "midterms."]

[. . . though the questions written on the notecards are a bit. . . personal, aren't they?]

[each character has a stack of notecards with little trivia questions about them written on the front! the questions range from what is X's favorite color? to in what year did X's sister die? hm. concerning!!]

[there's nothing forcing you to quiz each other with your personal trivia. . . but at the end of the table, you'll find a little prize corner with another sign that says "REWARDS FOR YOUR HARD WORK :)" the prizes include items that cannot be easily found around the school, like quality teas and coffee, small bottles of liquor, cute accessories with which to jazz up your student uniforms (buttons, pins, stickers, jewelry, etc), and even-- gasp-- make up and hair care items! for every one question that you answer correctly, you can take an item from the prize corner. attempts at nicking something without studying first will result in a mild electrical shock to those slippery fingers. put in the work to reap the rewards!!]

[the monsters books are also still being passed out by the ghosts. maybe you should. . . politely decline, though]

[ Hello! There's a new arrival. You can tell he's new because he's not a familiar face, but also he looks absolutely baffled by everything. Understandably! He was supposed to be getting ready for a mission departing from Rhodes, and now he's here? And also he thinks he just saw a creepy ghost, or something??? Help.

Pohl can be found wandering around, but primarily in a few locations:

- just outside the detention room, also the lobby -- very cautiously looking around, while carrying the broken leg of a chair, wielding it like a (very shoddy) knife.

- the cafeteria -- he is showing up at the tail end of a serving time and staring very wide-eyed at the food on offer. He looks reasonably impressed.

- near the dorms -- he's wearing Anzen colors, but he's still sorta scoping things out? He looks kind of lost, but if he makes eye contact with anyone, he'll give an awkward little wave of the hand and a fang-y little smile. Heeeey there, buddy, what's up? ]

AWS outage

DW is seeing some issues due to today's Amazon outage. For right now it looks like the site is loading, but it may be slow. Some of our processes like notifications and journal search don't appear to be running and can't be started due to rate limiting or capacity issues. DW could go down later if Amazon isn't able to improve things soon, but our services should return to normal when Amazon has cleared up the outage.

Edit: all services are running as of 16:12 CDT, but there is definitely still a backlog of notifications to get through.

Edit 2: and at 18:20 CDT everything's been running normally for about the last hour.

[ANNOUNCEMENTS + PLACEMENT]

Happy weekend everyone! Thank you very much for your patience as I took basically the entire week off. SOME ANNOUNCEMENTS:

The minigame from November 1 - 3 will be run in three rounds: one on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, respectively (if people's work schedules allow; the Monday round can be turned into a second round on Sat/Sun if no one is available that day). You will only be able to sign up for one round, I'm just running three to spread characters out evenly across the game so neither I nor you guys get overwhelmed lol. I'll give you round times and a place to sign up for them tomorrow! If you want a sneak peek of what you'll be playing, it's hitori kakurenbo.

Some things I forgot to mention last week: don't worry about AC for the last few months of the game! Since I've decided to wind things down to an ending in December it feels silly to enforce AC. . . sobs. . .

I've been thinking a lot about the teams I didn't get around to running li'l adventures for (that is, Kin'un, Kai-un, Yakuyoke, and Shiawase). Full disclosure: I definitely do not have the energy to run full adventures for you guys before endgame. . . but that said! I do plan on giving y'all some little self-run adventures in the upcoming weekly mingles so you can unlock your own resources/team lore. Don't worry, I will ping your teams first to make sure you guys are around/available so I don't just spring something plotty on you. I HAVE NOT. . . FORGOTTEN ABOUT YOU GUYS, I PROMISE.

[is it just you, or did the dorm room area get. . . bigger??]

[nope. it's not just you! there appear to be three more doors nestled right next to Shiawase, Kin'un, and Kai'un. they are labeled Food Tasting Club (Shiawase), Occult Investigations Club (Kin'un), and Outdoors Club (Kai-un). the spiritually sensitive will note that these rooms are not protected by the same magic as the actual dorms are, but! they don't appear to be haunted, either. . .?]

[why don't you check these new areas out!]

[for those who aren't in the dorm area. . . hey, did you know midterms are coming up? if you didn't, then you might find it weird that the local spirits are passing out random text books. some of them are polite and merely hold them out until you take them! some are rude and shove them into your hands before you can refuse. and some of them are extra rude and may try to clock you across the head with a text on advanced mathematics. sorry]

[for the most part? each text book is normal. some of you might get one that bites, though. that is, you open it up and it sprouts teeth and then tries to take off a finger or two. or maybe even your wholeass hand. that isn't very cool!!]

[if anyone happens into the cafeteria this day, they'll likely find a pile of mildly spicy meat handpies, some noodle dishes, some rice, and mooncakes. all of them with some levels of spice to them because in this house, we indulge in our spices until we're sent back home to places where spice is expensive af.

or at least, that's the sentiment of the cook.
